IT"S TIME FOR 2025 SPRING ASSESSMENTS! PLEASE FIND HLL ASSESSMENT FAQ BELOW:

Where are the assessments being held?

All assessment sessions will be held at:

Mary's Training Center

981 Bullfrog Valley Road
Hummelstown, 17036

When is my player's assessment?
- Colts (Machine Pitch): Sunday Feb. 23rd. at 8:15AM -11AM (or earlier) Check in 8:00AM
- Minors: Friday Feb 28th at 6PM to 7:30P. Check in 5:45PM
- Majors: Friday Feb 28th at 7:30t to 9:00PM: Check in 7:15PM

What should I tell my player to expect at the assessment session?
Upon arrival at Mary's, all players will be checked-in then directed in to the main training area.

Players will warm up as a full group and then be split into smaller teams to conduct various baseball drills/stations in the indoor training complex. Each station will be conducted by coaches and league officials. Every player will have a chance to throw, field ground balls and fly balls, and bat in a cage. Specific baseball skills will be discreetly evaluated during each drill. Coaches will strive to ensure the drills are fun and competitive to keep players engaged. Players only need to try their best and have some fun showing off their talents at each station!

Why does Hershey Little League conduct player assessments?
Preseason assessments are the best way for us to evaluate the relative skill level of our players prior to forming teams in their respective leagues (age level). The assessment program helps to ensure that teams are balanced and fair, which will result in a better playing experience during the Spring season. In addition, assessments are a vital component of our player safety protocol. It allows coaches and league officials to preemptively determine if an individual player's skill level poses a safety risk for other players in their respective age group. Any such concerns would be addressed between the player's parents and the league prior to the season.

Will my child's assessment preclude him/her from making a team?
No. Assessments are not "try outs". EVERY player who registers for Hershey Little League will be placed on a team, irrespective of their individual skill level and experience. Again, assessments are conducted only to ensure balanced formation of teams and preemptively diagnose any safety concerns.

Are the assessments mandatory?
Assessment attendance is highly recommended for all registered players in the Colts, MInors. and Majors programs. If your player is registered for one of these leagues and unable to attend their scheduled assessment, please reach out to  [email protected] and let us know your child will not be able to attend. There will be no "make-up" evaluation sessions.

There are no required assessments for Tee Ball players. Teener level players may have a separate assessment session, as determined by Teener Commissioner.

What should my player bring to assessments?
The league will have bats and helmets available at all sessions, if needed.

Players should bring: Gloves (required), Helmets, Bats, and Batting Gloves (if they wish to use their own equipment)

Players can bring water bottles. We will ask that all water bottles are placed in equipment backpacks and/or placed along the wall and off of the turf playing service. Volunteers will be on-site to direct players to the appropriate areas.

Can parents stay for assessments?
Parents may watch from the designated viewing areas or may wait in the lobby. Please note parking is very limited at Mary's. Please see below for specific drop-off & Koon's Park parking instructions.

What if there is inclement weather on the day of the assessment?
All assessments will be held indoors at Mary's Training Facility. Weather should not impact the actual sessions. While the facility is covered and protected from the elements, it is not heated. Please have your player dress appropriately for the temperature.

Otherwise, in the event that inclement weather poses dangerous travel conditions, any changes to the scheduled assessment will be communicated from the league via email.

Is there anything we can do at home to prepare our player for assessments?
No preparation is necessary for assessments. If your player hasn't played any baseball over the cold winter months, it might be helpful to play a game of catch with them prior to assessments so that they are more comfortable throwing and catching at Mary's. Sometimes just a few throws and catches will get them back in to the swing of things!

What else can we expect at our assessment?
HLL will have sample uniforms available to try on for sizing purposes. Uniforms will be distributed prior to the start of the season.

We will also have Dick's Sporting Good Coupon books available for all Hershey Little League families. Each book is only $10 and can provide big savings on baseball and other equipment and apparel at Dick's Sporting Goods. These books provide our league's participants a great way to save money and all proceeds help to fund equipment, umpire fees, and field maintenance during the season. Your support is greatly appreciated! Volunteers will be on site to distribute DSG coupons and share information about other upcoming fundraising at the check-in area.

Lastly, there will be plenty of volunteers on-site to answer any questions about the upcoming season. Please don't hesitate to ask.

What's the deal with parking at Mary's?
If your player participated in our Winter Workout Series, you are aware that parking at Mary's is not ideal for large groups. PARKING WILL BE EXTREMELY LIMITED DURING ALL ASSESSMENT SESSIONS!  We ask that Parents drop-off their players at Mary's first then proceed to park at Koons Field to walk back to Mary's.

We will have volunteers available to direct players at drop-off and also available in the lobby to check them in while parents park. Thanks in advance for your flexibility.
